Neurotoxin Injections

Neurotoxins, also known as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are injectable solutions that temporarily block nerve receptors in the muscle, preventing lines and wrinkles that are formed by high muscle movement, those wrinkles are called dynamic wrinkles. Neurotoxin reduces the appearance of dynamic wrinkles for a smoother look. We are using Dysport and Xeomin brands of neurotoxin in TN Med Spa.

Area to treat: forehead, crow’s feet, Glabella (frown lines), bunny lines, chin dimple, smoker's lines, and lipstick lines. We can also use neurotoxin to raise your brow to give your eyes more fuller look and to make your lips fuller (flip Lip).

Neurotoxins are also used to help with migraines, Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), and TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) dysfunction.

What it is

About Neurotoxins

Neurotoxins are an FDA-approved treatment that has been used medically since the 1970s. They are safe, highly effective, and require zero downtime. When carefully injected they give skin a smooth and renewed appearance that looks natural.

We are using Dysport, and Xeomin in Translate Nursing Med Spa.

Dysport

Dysport - FDA approved in April 2009. Dysport is a Botulinum toxin product its defining feature is that it tends to spread due to a higher rate of diffusion. A higher rate of diffusion makes it ideal for treating larger areas (think: foreheads) — though more product may be needed to achieve results. Dysport also acts slightly quicker than standard Botox. Contains lactose and cow’s milk protein, making it unsuitable for patients with dairy allergies. Results last for up to 3 months.

Xeomin

Xeomin - FDA approved in 2011, but it has been used in many other countries since 2005. Xeomin is a pure toxin without any coating proteins. It goes through a unique manufacturing process that results in this highly purified neurotoxin without any accessory excipients. This makes it possible for people allergic to some substances or other neurotoxins to undergo a Xeomin procedure to treat wrinkles. Results last for up to 3 months.

How it Works

Botulinum toxin type A (BoNT) is the primary active ingredient in each of the three products. Neurotoxins target the underlying causes of wrinkles and frown lines. We inject small doses into the end of a nerve to temporarily block its impulses and allow facial muscles to relax. Every patient’s anatomy and muscle structure are different. Therefore, the amount of Neurotoxins needed to create a desirable result is different.

Product Recommendation

For maximum results we recommend using our Needle Free Serum twice a day between treatments. The revolutionary combination of ingredients increases collagen and elastin synthesis to enhance firmness and hydration in injected areas.

Treatment only takes 10-15 minutes and a few tiny injections. You can be in and out on your lunch break! Noticeable results should appear 3-5 days after treatment, with full results visible 14 days post-treatment. We encourage you to schedule a check-in visit in 14 days to make sure you see the results you desire.

What to Expect

  • It depends on several factors including: which area(s) you are trying to treat (11s, forehead, crow’s feet, etc), the strength of your facial muscles, and how deep your existing lines are. We recommend a complimentary consultation with our nurse injector to create a plan that is right for you.

  • Not really - it feels like a pinch! The needle is small, thin, and it goes by quickly to decrease the possibility of pain. No numbing agents are needed.

  • There’s virtually zero downtime with these treatments. Neurotoxins are often referred to as a “lunchtime procedure,” since most patients return directly to work or normal activity immediately. Some redness and swelling may occur at the injection sites, but it usually subsides within a few hours. Very rarely, patients may experience minor bruising.

  • Neurotoxin injections are very common, low risk procedures. Headache, minor bruising or swelling at the injection site are the most common but still rare side effects. As with any treatment, there are always risks which your nurse injector will walk you through prior to treatment.

  • Please avoid all blood-thinning medications and supplements for three days before and after your appointment. This includes over-the-counter medication such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, and Aleve. Also avoid herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, St. John's Wort, and omega-3 capsules.

Please don’t wear any makeup to your appointment. Our injectors need to be able to see your fine lines and wrinkles clearly.

People who are pregnant or nursing are not eligible for neurotoxin treatment.

  • • Avoid touching your face and wearing makeup on the day of the procedure.

    • Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area unless instructed by the provider.

    • Avoid tanning, extensive sun, or heat for 24 hours (no sauna, hot yoga or hot tub).

    • Avoid strenuous exercise or anything that increases your heart rate for 24 hours.

    • Avoid consuming excess amounts of alcohol or salts to avoid excessive swelling on the day of your treatment.

    • Do not lie down or bend over with your head down within 4 hours following your treatment. Please squat rather than bend over at the waist during this time.

    • If there is bruising at the injection site, ice the area(s) for 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off, as much as possible for the first 24 hours while awake.

    • Avoid facials, massages, and exfoliating the area for one day post-procedure.

    • Please wait until the day after treatment before wearing hats or headbands.

    • Use Tylenol (acetaminophen) for headache or discomfort. No NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin) for 24 hours as they can increase bleeding.

    • Please schedule follow-up 2 weeks post-treatment with your provider for reevaluation and "after" photos. This will help us evaluate the proper dosage for your next treatment.

Neurotoxins last, on average, 3 months. It is recommended at the time of your treatment to schedule your next appointment for maximum benefit.

The most typical side effects are headache, bruising, swelling, and redness. These are temporary and will be resolved.

However, please call or text the office at 717-825-0622 to notify us if you experience any additional side effects.
