How it Works

We are currently offering 3 medication Options. All of are FDA has approved use for people with a BMI over 30 or a BMI over 27 when a patient has additional obesity-related conditions. They are available by prescription only, and you will need to discuss them with our Nurse Practitioner Brandon.

Semaglutide Injection and Tablets

How does it work? Semaglutide (injections) is a once-once-a-week injectable or twice-a-day oral tablet prescription medicine. Both forms are used for adults with obesity or excess weight who also have weight-related medical problems to help them lose weight. Semaglutide is a glucagon-like-peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that is engineered in the laboratory. What this means is that Semaglutide mimics the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone that is released by our intestines into our bloodstream within minutes after we ingest food.

Concerns: Semaglutide should not be used in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to Semaglutide, nor should it be used in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or a rare condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and constipation. Semaglutide may also cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) if you take it with some other diabetes medications such as sulfonylureas and insulin. Semaglutide also has boxed warning for inflammation of the pancreas, gallbladder problems, increased heart rate and acute kidney injury (from dehydration).

Mounjaro® - (tirzepatide) injection

Mounjaro (injections) is a once-once-a-week injectable. Mounjaro belongs to a drug class called glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. The medication is not available in a generic version thus is more expensive.

Common side effects include injection site reactions, a slight increase in heart rate, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, indigestion and diarrhea, and vomiting. Mounjaro has a boxed warning for the risk of thyroid cancer.

How to use it

Injections come as a liquid solution in a single-use injection. It’s given as a subcutaneous (into the fatty tissues just beneath the skin) injection. You’ll inject under the skin of your abdomen by rotating the injection sites. The oral tablets are taken twice a day. Further education will be provided during your initial visit.

The injections starts at a lower dose and then increases monthly. As the dose increases the price increases. However, if you find a lower dose working well for you you don’t have to progress to the higher dose. Treatments are highly individualized and our Nurse Practitioner (NP) will be monitoring your progress and potential side effects closely.
